So sorry for your loss. I’m so glad I got to know Silas over the past few years. Big hearted, open, down to earth, funny, gentle but full of fire, humble. Love and prayers to you Si, and your family.

This world has lost one of the kindest man I know who brought joy to the people around him. Sy had a killer smile:) We grew up together and had many "adventures" together. One thing I vividly remember is...At Gilmore schoolyard, Summit Ave & 15 St in Union City, we "invented the air guitar" with my brother Fred and cousin Anthony. We were only 5 or 6 years old at the time. And there are so many more happy memories which I will treasure forever.
I will always miss you cuz and I will always love you. Rest in peace with God. Your cousin, Billy K.

RIP Silas. I remember you well from childhood in lyndhurst along with your mom Flo and brothers Brian and Anthony. We all has fun as kids as our parents hung out along with the Gannons. Rest easy now, we will see you again in that better place.

Forever in our hearts, Bergen Turnpike's Superman!
Yesterday's outpouring Sy’s wake testified to his profound impact on countless lives. Everyone shared heartfelt stories and kind words.
As so many others, I too cherish memories of seeing him sitting on the stoop, watching him smoke his cigarette when getting of the bus coming home from work. I recall this past summer getting off the bus seeing him and approaching him, I said “Hi, how are you? I’m Amber and Lola‘s mom. He knew exactly who I was. We had a brief pleasant conversation.
At the service during that one minute of silence to reflect on a memory of Sy, I reminisce of our brief summer encounter.
His phone number remains saved as "Superman" in my phone.
The picture slides at the wake showcased his love and pride for his only son Derek, daughters, Robby and his beautiful wife Mary whom I adore so very much!
Though it's never easy to bid farewell to loved ones, especially a dear father and husband, God's strength sustains us. I pray for comfort and healing for the family amidst this sudden loss. May cherished memories of this beautiful soul forever reside in your hearts, bringing solace and peace.
Rest in peace to our Bergen TPKE forever, “Superman”
Love,
Lourdes & Nelson
Lola & Amber

Q: What will you never forget about Silas?
A: Silas used to sit with my 86 year old father in law before and after the renovations at our house. My father in law truly appreciated and enjoyed the conversations they had. It is something I won’t forget because my father in law still talks about them. Silas was a great man and we all became friends.

Not only am I blessed to be a friend of Derek’s but I’m so lucky to have met his incredible father. It didn’t matter how many times I’d get to hang around Silas and the family he always remembered details about my life, genuinely cared & was always incredibly present. Above all else he made me feel welcomed. May he rest and fly (just like Superman) forever now <3

Sy- my best friend and ‘brother’ - words can’t describe my exact feelings but my heart is crushed. I’m so grateful for our many years of friendship, countless hours of FaceTime calls, and so so many laughs. My greatest memory will be the night you took Liz’s hair and put it on your bald head and laughed with such a belly laugh. For what felt like hours of laughing. I will always remember and never forget you and all our memories. I LOVE YOU

To my second Dad: There’s not enough words in the dictionary, or pictures in the world, that can describe you. You were a man who showed the world unconditional love. You will be missed by so, so many. Thank you for making me part of your family. Thank you for all the late night talks. Thank you for all the life lessons. I will hold your phrases, your words, and your laughter in my heart forever.
