Jim,
While our philosophies didn’t always align, your passion and empathy for your class was always your priority. You were always concerned for their well being and for their feelings. Your encouragement to allow them to express their feelings was admirable. You went out of your way to participate in the games the children wanted to play (duck, duck, goose comes to mind). The projects you initiated and your contributions to the school were fun for your children to see manifested.
I bet you are organizing some projects in heaven! Rest in peace, Jim.

I am so proud to be Jim's sister. He was such a good person; so committed to his work teaching pre-K and CCD. He loved his family and was an active member of the St. John's the Evangelist Knights of Columbus.
We love him and we miss him.

What do I say in words about my Brother's passing.....In truth I think I lack the skill to summarize his life properly. I can say he was gone too soon, and will be missed by family and friends. It is his memory that lives on in those lives he touched.

Uncle Jim's life was a testament to the power of small acts of kindness. He understood that love is an action and simple moments of connection can have tremendous impact. He knew that any time spent in community was time worth spending, whether it was with his family and friends, service with the Knights, or in his work. No doubt this loss will be felt by many who relied on his commitment to showing up with care. May he rest in peace and may we honor his memory by extending a hand, sharing a meal, making a phone call to check in, or volunteering our gifts where there is need.

Jim was a person who cared about others and tried hard to make a positive difference in the lives of people he met, and even those he did not know. He loved working with children - teaching pre-K and CCD brought him great joy and satisfaction. In his final days, he stayed positive; his faith was strong and a source of comfort to him. He told me many times he considered himself to be a "lucky guy" because of all the people in his life who cared about him. He touched our lives in different ways, and those of us who knew him, loved him and will miss him. May he rest in peace.

Q: How did you meet James?
A: I meet Jim in 2009 at Child Care Resources of Rockland as part of our staff.
I remember Jim as a kind person, always available to help.
Jim always had a big smile even when situations were very difficult. We laugh and cry at times.
He just to make jokes about dead but when i turned serious to him he apologized and explained that was a cultural habit he had.
Jim always shares snacks with me and eventually he listens to my advice to stop drinking soda and have water instead.
When i visited him i asked if he allowed me to pray and he answered i new you are going to do it. i hold his hand and i saw tears in his eyes. Jim was in peace.
my friend will be miss.

Dear Tom, Phylliss, and all the Callaghan Family,
I had the privilege of spending a lot of time with Jim as a Knight of Columbus, a fellow-CCD teacher in teh church, and as someone who like Jim, ate many meals of the Tri Valley diner. Jim believed that religion at its core meant serving our less fortunate brothers and sisters and that's the way he operated. Jim and I would go back and forth for hours on political and theological issues on which I usually found myself opposing, or at least to the right of Jim's opinions. When it would get near closing time at the diner, we would jokingly agree that once again we had not solved the problems of the world. Jim was a man of principle who walked the talk. He kept prodding me and our fellow Knights to do more in the way of serving the less fortunate, especially people who were alone, and could use a visit orphone call. Right up until the end, he was challenging us to do more.
He also was an innovative CCD teacher and last year had his middle-school students compose and conduct a prayer service at St. John's that was well recieved by all. Finally, he was a true friend with a great sense of humor. I will never forget him!

Jim, it was an honor to call you my friend and have you as a coworker. I will miss our conversations, whether we were agreeing or disagreeing (mostly disagreeing) which made them more fun, but always friendly and kind. We here at work, celebrated you with ice cream on that very sad Friday, the day we heard you left us. That was your thing... Ice Cream Fridays. You are a true champion Jim, you were always trying to do things for others, before doing for yourself. You will be missed. Love ya, Kathleen

Jim, we became great friends over the past several years. I was proud to call you my friend and my Brother Knight. You did so much to help others, never thinking of yourself, right up to the day our Lord called you to heaven. You touched many lives and made a lot of those lives better. There is no greater mark a Knight of Columbus can achieve ! Your life is a testament to everyone in our Order of how we should act as Catholic gentlemen. Until we meet again , Steve
