I still fondly remember Joe during my student teaching days (56 years ago).Even though he wasn’t my supervising teacher, he mentored me and showed me the value of different teaching styles. I can still hear him singing God Bless America with his class every morning after the Pledge of Allegiance. His smile and enthusiasm lit up everyone’s spirit. Although I hadn’t seen him in over 50 years, the kindness and support he gave me as a beginning teacher has always been remembered. If there is music in the afterlife ,Joe will be front and center cheering up the souls of many just as he did in this life.

Joe Miller
I met Joe Miller soon after I started dating my wife, Terry Perrone, in 1966. Joe was a good friend of Terry’s brother Paul. Joe, Paul, myself, and my roommate, Terry’s cousin Eddie Perrone, made several trips to the MEN’s bar at the Clam Broth House in Hoboken, eating “piss’ clams dipped in melted butter and drinking a lot of beer. Two or three times a week, we four closed The Perrone family business, Rennie’s Liquors. After we would lock up we’d go upstairs for coffee, cake, cookies, or some other goodie. Joe loved to sing and blessed Charlie and Terry’s wedding by singing “Impossible Dream” from Man of LA Mancha. Here’s a picture of Joe, his mom, and Rennie at the store opening party.
Joe was very serious about his teaching. So, when Terry said she was having a bad year teaching, Joe corrected her; “Terry, good teachers never have a bad year, just difficult ones that require creativity and perseverance.’ Although Joe never married, he considered that he had many children from the students he taught.
Joe was almost always happy and optimistic. The only time I saw him sad was when his good friend Cosmo died after being married for a short time. Terry and I anticipate seeing Joe again in heaven. Joe’s life was a blessing to many.

Mr. Joseph Miller was my sixth-grade teacher at Bryan School. He dedicated his life to education and learning and positively affected the lives of countless students, colleagues, families, and especially mine. I will remember him for his passion for teaching, kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering commitment to the people in his life. He instilled life in his teachings, inspired curiosity, and nurtured a love of knowledge. It is easy to declare that Mr. Miller was an OG and the GOAT of the Cresskill Education System. I am fortunate to have called Mr. Joe Miller my friend. You’ll be missed!

"A Good Friend" are the best words to describe what Joe was to my wife Mariann and myself and our family. Besides the many years of Joe and Mariann teaching together, there were countless dinners and shows we shared with friends and family. Joe was a fixture for many years at the table in Englewood Cliffs for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve with us. He brought laughter and joy to our world. We can only imagine the crowd that was there to greet him with Saint Peter as he arrived in Heaven. Rest in Peace Joe!

Mr. Miller was my 6th. Grade teacher at Edward H. Bryan Elementary School, in Cresskill, NJ. He was so much fun and a very enthusiastic teacher!! I remember when we were all put in groups and given certain assignments that took us all over the school, doing various experiments! I think he loved teaching Science the most! This is what he wrote in my little autograph book at the end of the year. I still have it. I have also memorized it and quoted it to many of my students, since I was also an elementary school teacher, teaching mainly 1st., 2nd., and 3rd. Grades. He wrote; “ Learn young lady until you grow old, for learning’s more precious than silver or gold. Silver and gold will all fade away, but a good education will never decay.” Rest in peace, Mr. Miller. I am one of those students that remember you so well! I was that quiet girl who strived to make all A’s all of the time, and actually did! Back then, A’s were listed on our report card as “High Achievement!” Love , Jennifer Little
