Obituary of Helga Ingwersen
Helga (nee Muller) Ingwersen, 89, a life long resident of North Haledon, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 31, 2024. Born to the late Gertrude (nee Schafert) and the late Heinrich Muller on January 23, 1935. Helga’s life was a tapestry of love, strength, and perseverance. Her journey began in Wyk auf Fohr an island in Germany, where she grew up with her brother the late Frederick Muller. Her childhood was filled with the simple joys of country life, which laid the foundation for her nurturing spirit. In 1955 Helga immigrated to the United States where her life blossomed further marrying her soulmate the late John Ingwersen of 56 blissful years. Their marriage was a testament of enduring love, celebrated in a quaint ceremony among friends. Together they raised three remarkable children Christine Fannin, Katharine Kelly and her husband Thomas, and Donald J. Ingwersen, who were Helga’s pride and joy, and grandmother to three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She worked tirelessly alongside her husband John at North Haledon’s well-known landmark Ingwersen’s Delicatessen, and Belmont Bakery owned by her daughter Kathy proudly serving the community she loved dearly. However, Helga’s greatest accomplishment was being a doting wife and mother, always ready with a comforting word or engaging story. She was an avid knitter and crocheter and expressed her love through making gifts for friends and family famously known for her beautifully designed slippers. She enjoyed to cook and was renowned for her delicious Rouladen. Helga was a beacon of warmth and wisdom, a wonderful mother who was always there when you needed her offering support and love in abundance. She was a cherished friend to many, and leaves a legacy of kindness to all who knew her.
