Obituary of Gerard Villano
Gerard Villano, 90, of Ridgefield Park, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. He was the beloved husband of 55 years to Marie (nee Monahan) Villano. Gerard was the devoted father of Christine and Valerie Villano. He was the endeared uncle of Marianne Daddario and her husband Joe and great nephew Joseph, Dolly Gurliaccio, Anna Powell and family, and Anna Goclin. He is predeceased his adored brothers and sisters, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gerard was a cherished friend to many. He was an affectionate soul and formed strong bonds creating an extended family. He was also known as “dad” to Eileen and Mary Scully, Donna Hoppe-Latko, and Cheryl and Denise Papay as well as his “grandchildren” Justine Latko-Aab, Brianna and Hayley Latko, Justine and her husband William, BJ, and “great grandfather” to Colton and Ryder Aab. He was also a huge animal lover who could not resist puppy kisses from his “four legged” grandchildren.
Gerard was born in Jersey City, NJ to the late Anna (nee Lisa) and Michael Villano. He was afflicted with Tuberculosis as a child but against all odds Gerard was determined to graduate high school receiving his diploma in a hospital bed. Gerard was a private CPA for Lonza in Fairlawn as a Payroll Supervisor serving loyal clients for over 40 years before his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed getting lost in books, and developed a green thumb in gardening. Gerard was always down for an adventure which led him on many road trips especially to Atlantic City stopping along the way and eating at many of New Jersey’s diners. He was a true gentleman although he was quiet, he emanated a warm energy welcoming all around him. Gerard will be greatly missed but his memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Gerard’s life will be held on Friday, August 18th beginning at 4 PM and concluding at 8 PM. A Catholic blessing will be officiated at the funeral home on Saturday, August 19th at 10 AM before being laid to rest at Holy Cross Mausoleum in North Arlington.
