Obituary of Walter R Mastison

Walter R. Mastison, 77, of Ridgefield Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 4, 2023.  He was the beloved husband of 54 years to Margaret (nee Callahan).  Walter was the devoted father of Jessica Mastison.  The greatest joy in his life was his cherished grandson, Brian Garcia.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Walter was born in Evansville, Indiana to Essie Mae (nee Whitler) and Harvey Mastison.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he worked as a Seaman, and bravely fought in the Vietnam War.  Walter loved to help people and perused a career in law enforcement and became Sergeant for the New Jersey Transit Police for 42 years.  He loved being an involved member of his community and was a volunteer EMT for the Ridgefield Park Ambulance Corp.  Walter enjoyed Horseback riding, fishing, bowling, and most important spending time with his family on cruises.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023 beginning at 2 PM and concluding at 6 PM.  A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Francis R.C. Church, on Monday, May 8, 2023, beginning at 10 AM.  Walter will be laid to rest at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
