Obituary of Mathilda Gonczi Gioe

Please share a memory of Mathilda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mathilda (Til) Gioe, nee Gonczi, of Ridgefield Park, passed away peacefully on April 23 at age 95 surrounded by loved ones. She was a lifelong resident of her beloved Ridgefield Park. Until her retirement, Til worked for the Fort Lee Public Schools and Ridgefield Park Board of Education. She was a member of the Ridgefield Park Seniors, a parishioner of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church in Teaneck and devoted Yankees fan. Til enjoyed spending warm summer days at the town pool with her friends and had a fondness for dogs, especially her late faithful companion, Tino.

Til was the loving mother of the late Robert Bruce O’Connor and Beth Mae O’Connor. She was married to their father, the late Robert Arthur O’Connor. Proud of her Hungarian heritage, Til was the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth Gonczi and dear sister to the late Elizabeth Quinn. Cherished grandmother of Alison, Kristen, Alexis and Zachary and great-grandmother to many. Til was predeceased by her husband George Gioe. She will be dearly missed by her friends and extended family.

A heartfelt thank you to the many Ridgefield Park township employees and dedicated staff at Valley View Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Newton for providing special care for Til.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Til’s name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or the ASPCA.

Viewing will be held at Vorhees-Ingwersen Funeral Home, 59 Main St. Ridgefield Park, on Sunday, April 30 from 2pm – 6pm. Funeral on Monday, May 1 at 10am, followed by an interment at Fairview Cemetery.
