Fannin, John Paul "Jack", 72, died February 13. A lifelong resident of the Borough, he was a volunteer fireman for over 30 years, a past assistant chief of Company #2 and a founding member of Rescue Company #5. He also served the Borough as a member of the Board of Education, a Sergeant in the Auxiliary Police, and as Bailiff in the Municipal Court. In his thirty years of military service he saw action with the US Navy at Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis and at Da Nang during the Vietnam War before returning to join the US Army National Guard. Throughout his career with the Hawthorne DPW and as Borough Safety Officer, he was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Master Gardeners and the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his loving wife Christine (nee: Ingwersen); by his two sons, Scott and his wife Alysia of Cresskill and Brian and his wife Chinh of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and by his grandchildren Isabelle, Matthew, Sophia and Calder. Memorial Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 PM on Saturday, February 20th at Browning-Forshay Funeral Home. 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne NJ 07506. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Jacks memory be made to Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, 2 Shelter Lane, Oakland, NJ 07436.
