I was deeply saddened when I learned of Phil’s passing. Having lived across the street from Cathy Anderson Rey, I got to know Phil during his high school years. Despite having had no siblings as well as a few years his junior, Phil treated me like a younger brother (teasing included). Phil also introduced me to the guitar, often leaving his own guitar for me to practice on until I could afford to buy my own.
In later years, some of fondest memories revolved around weekends at the Jersey Shore. The carpool caravan would begin Friday afternoon headed down the Garden State Parkway, most times returning home Monday morning with only an hour to get ready for work. Our routine included relaxing on the beach during the day until it was time to start the party once again that evening. D’Jais in Belmar, the Osprey in Manasquan, and Jimmy Byrnes in Sea Girt were the favorites. What always amazed me was that wherever we went, everyone knew Phil, and Phil made it a point to know you so that he could make sure everybody was having a good time. One of the good guys, Phil will truly be missed.
May God send His blessings of comfort and peace to Phil's family in this difficult time.

This is terribly sad news. I have very few high school memories that don't include Phil. He was my first official boyfriend. He taught me to drive. He took me to my first prom, and on my first visit to the Jersey shore. I remember his first band, the music and the musicians. If my friends and I went out and Phil was in the group my mother didn't worry. And equally as important to me, for years he took the time to check on my parents in Teaneck to make sure they were OK and didn't need anything. And to have a cup of my mother's coffee. I know how much he will be missed and offer my condolences to all his family and friends.

It was so sad to hear about Phil's passing and offer my deepest condolences to the family. I knew Phil for over 30 years and enjoyed our conversations whenever we had the opportunity to meet. He loved to talk about his summers on the boat, which made me quite jealous! Phil will be missed. God bless.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Phil's passing. I had the honor of knowing Phil for about 30 years through our association with the county traffic officers. As a matter of fact, at the last executive board meeting, just before Covid pandemic started, we sat next to each other share some conversation over a cup of coffee and. He had a great sense of humor. He was a gentleman, cop's cop and a great human being. My deepest condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

Our condolences go out to the family. May God Bless all of you.
Phil was 1 year ahead of me in high school (1970). Like Phil, I am a long time Yankee fan (1961).
My wife Carole and I would see Phil at the Elks. We enjoyed his company.
He will truly be missed.
Again, God Bless.

When I became the director of the library, Phil told me "I've got your back." In the time that we spent working together, he never once went back on his word. He told me the library was important in representing Ridgefield Park's character. It's due to people like Phil that make that character what it is. Thank you Phil. I'll miss your counsul... and your friendship.

Although Holly and I were only on that beloved D-Dock for 2 seasons, Phil made us feel like we had been residents for years. I could always count on a smile and a friendly word from Tidal 39ll's rear deck. I will have the fondest memories of him forever.

I remember Phil as an officer who used to take me home after I had to much to drink at the Elks. I remember one night Phil picked me up with I was walking home to Little Ferry on the yellow lines on Main Street by the Masonic Temple and offered me a ride home but said he wasn't supposed to leave town.
I found out later that he was yelled out for leaving town but Phil being himself could care less. That was Phil always a gentleman, always a smile on his face. He was truly one of the good guys. He will be missed.

I've known Phil since I was 16.... worked as a RP Youth Squad & Senior Squad First Aider/EMT while He was on the Job . We occasionally worked together at Home Hardware / Heights Hardware in the late 80's. He was also my Mom Boss while working as a Crossing Guard .
We passed and chatted occasionally in the Halls at Bergen Community College.... I was proud to have been at His & Donnas wedding ..... We each Enjoyed and shared the love for the Jersey Shore and our love for each of our beloved dogs. ( His PIXIE GIRL!!)
( My Newton.)
I always looked forward to seeing him at my Coleus sales each year along with Donna and Daina.....MY BEST CUSTOMERS!!!
So I have Fond memories of Phil and I'm floored with sadness.
People refer to Phil as a Gentle Giant.....I cant top that description....except only to add that it was His Heart that made him a Giant.

Phil was my first partner and training officer in 1987. Sergeant Adams had me ride with Phil the first week of my police career. Phil taught me everything I needed to know about being an honest cop with a high standard of integrity. In between calls we would play music trivia and he was unbeatable. Phil was a great cop, friend, husband and father. He made my 23 year career full of great memories on and definitely off the job. He will be missed immensely.

I’ll always remember all the kindnesses Phil gave to my family. He was there when both my parents died, just watching over. A devoted friend and “family member. “ My Dad used to yell across the yard when he played “I’m Henry the Eighth I am” by The Hermit Hermits over and over again. “Phil,” my Pop would yell, “At least change to Elvis!” He was loved by all who knew him. My prayers and love to Donna and his family.
