Obituary of Frederick J. Ortiz

Frederick J Ortiz, 89 of Little Ferry, NJ passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Hackensack University Medical Center in the hands of an Angel. Frederick was born May 6, 1930 in Harlem, NY, he graduated High School and entered the Military where he served in the Army and Merchant Marines and was a Veteran of World War II. He met his favorite dance partner and the love of his life Lorraine (Carmoega) Ortiz in 1965, the two married and moved from New York to Little Ferry, NJ where they would plant roots and raise their children. Throughout his life Frederick was self-employed, owning two gas stations a Shell Station in Hasbrouck Heights NJ and a Getty Station in Ridgefield Park NJ. When he wasn’t working he was helping to care for his children and grandchildren. He loved to travel with friends and family spending many summer vacations in Puerto Rico and later in life spending the colder months with his son in Florida. At home, when the weather was nice you would find him in the back yard tinkering in his garage, listening to Frank Sinatra or sitting on the front porch with a Modela and a good Cigar. He always had a kind word for neighbors and passersby, always a smile, that smile that could light up the darkest room. Frederick was a Gentleman above all else, he was a loving, kind man who welcomed so many into his home, his life, his family throughout the years. To know him was to love him. The mold was truly broken after him. Frederick is predeceased by his parents, Sebastian and Palimira (Leon) Ortiz and his sister Ruth Madera. He is survived by his loving wife Lorraine (Carmoega) Ortiz, his children Nina and son in law Dan, Ronnie, George, Cathy, Maria, Ralph, Teresa, and Joy, his grandchildren, Crystal, Jaqueline, Catherine, Aida, Asia, Erica, Samantha, George, Victoria, Nicole, Stephanie, Anthony, Jessica, Lisa, Aelicia, Rachel, Anthony, Taylor and 21 Great grandchildren. Frederick is also survived by many Nieces, Nephews and an abundance of Friends that were truly family in his eyes. A Memorial Service to honor Frederick will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 4 to 9PM at Vorhees Ingwersen Funeral Home. Please continue to keep the family in your prayers.
