Obituary of Catherine Foust

Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Foust, Catherine “Cathy,” nee Eardley, passed away on April 15, 2020 following a brief battle with Covid 19.  Beloved wife of the late Alan Foust, loving mother of Cynthia (Ron) Venner, and doting grandmother to Liam, Charlotte and Eloise Venner.  Daughter to Catherine Eardley Murphy and the late Robert Eardley.  Sister to Cynthia (John) Pacholick and Bette (David) Mueller.  Aunt, Great Aunt, and friend to many.

Cathy grew up in Evanston, Ill. and attended Regina Domincan High School and went on to graduate from Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo. where she served on the Student Council and Board of Elections.  Upon graduation, she became a first-grade teacher at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview, Ill. where she earned the prestigious Teacher of the Year award for her selfless devotion to her students.

She eventually settled in Leonia, N.J. with her husband, Alan, where they raised their only daughter, Cynthia.  Cathy enjoyed hosting numerous cocktail and dinner parties to celebrate the achievements of her husband, a critically-acclaimed musician, and his associates.  She served as a eucharistic minister for St. John the Evangelist Church in Leonia.  She devoted herself to her family and prior to her death, found the utmost joy in spending time with her beautiful grandchildren.  She prided herself on her phenomenal culinary skills and intended to write a book where she could showcase her recipes for all to enjoy.

Cathy was first and foremost a mother to all she met, protecting those she loved with the ferocity of a mother bear.  She cared deeply about many and remained loyal to even her oldest friends, including those from her grade school St. Athanasius in Evanston, Ill.  She was eager to please, particularly her mother, who she made a point to call every Sunday to reflect on their favorite show, CBS Sunday Morning.

A service will be held in both Leonia and Chicago at a later date.   In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Convent of the Sacred Heart on 91st Street in New York City, NY or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital
