I wish I could have been there in person to give my condolences. I enjoyed my conversation with Matty a couple of months ago in the house. He always made you feel welcome and that he'd been looking forward to seeing you. He'll be missed but not forgotten!

My grandfather was a noble man, strong and stubborn and he never forgot to plant his herbs and tomatoes or sit outside and look at the crocuses. I’ll never forget the way his eyes would light up when he saw us or when he’d ask me how my basketball season was going. Most of all I will miss his long walks with me when he’d visit us and how he would pull his shirt up and flex his muscles when I wouldn’t eat and say “ if you eat you’ll b big and strong like me “
He was truly a gentleman and his voice will never fade from my heart or my head with his soothing Irish accent

As sometimes happens in town, I met Matt and Alice because of tree issues.
They were happy, I think, as the problem(s) were resolved.
As I got to know Matt and Alice more deeply, I learned that they were a great example for me, and for all of us: such kindness, generosity, and Christian love can inspire us all.
In friendship with Matt and Alice, I also got to share in the delicious bounty of Matt's to-mah-toes. as Alice would say. As well, I often saw him work in "his" garden across from their house.
He was so strong! Of course, for years he lifted weights, but that is not really the kind of strength I mean.
I add my blessings to those of all the others who knew Matt. He will be in Paradise.

“Out of Ireland have we come; great hatred, little room maimed us at the start....
I carry from my mother’s womb, a fanatic heart!” Godspeed, Uncle Mattie!
