Condolences to Andy, the Birdsall family, and all who knew him. He was kind and helpful and had a good sense of humor. It was always nice to see him when I visited NJ. He will be missed.

I first met Peter when I joined the chess club in 2016. He was the perfect person for the job of club president-- welcoming, kind, understanding, and very funny. I will miss Peter's wit, his dedicated presence at the club, and our infrequent games together. He often joked about his book, "My 60 Most Forgettable Games of Chess"--but my games and times with Peter are some of my favorite chess memories.

Peter was a Great man, a Great President of our Chess Club and a Good Friend of mine. For the past 6 years of him being President, the club had remarkably improved, attracting many strong players, many kind people and overall a great atmosphere. He always had a great sense of humor and every week gave all of us a laugh and was overall extremely friendly and helpful. When someone was sick or had passed he always gave some way to help or honor them. He helped me out many times and I will always be grateful for that. God rest his soul and his legacy will live on our Chess Club.

Peter was the best friend I had at the chess club. When I first joined, he was very welcoming when I knew no one. He was even extremely patient when I had an innappropriate burst of competitive anger, listened patiently without judgement and made me feel heard. The next week I realized what I put him through for half an hour and he was still nothing but accepting and forgiving. Because of that, I began to feel more at home at the club and went on to make many friends there. In addition, Peter's sense of humor always lightened my load, and I always looked forward to the laughs I knew we'd have. I often was the last player remaining, and would spend twenty minutes regularly at the end of the night with him. I will definitely miss that, and miss my true blue funny friend Peter

I have known Peter his whole life. While older than Pete we always got along well and I fondly remember him especially from the many family vacations in Lavalette. I know he will be missed and Donna joins me in sending our condolences to all of his loved ones.

I will always remember the first day mom introduced us to you. You wore a bow tie just to be silly. From that moment on I knew what a funny, caring and loving person you are. Thanks for being there as my stepdad. You will forever be missed. HABA!

Pete was a kind, gentle soul with a quick wit and a generous heart. He and Andrea were wonderful neighbors to my parents Carol and Joe. We will be forever grateful for the way they looked after them through many challenging circumstances. Pete will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the girls Andrea. May God comfort you as you grieve and give you His Peace.

There are few men who can get down on the floor and playfully engage a shy, reticent small child. Pete, though, was such a man. His granddaughter appreciated his quiet, loving, approachable manner and responded in-kind. His stepson-in-law always spoke highly of Pete. We are grateful for Pete's welcoming, genuinely kind, funny, humanistic interactions.

To my friend, I will miss you. Though we hadn't seen much of each other in recent years there was always a bond that will never be broken. Friends since high school, I will always cherish the good times we had. You had a heart of gold. Rest in peace my dear friend.

A silly, compassionate man who always made everyone, young and old, feel right at home. Your storytelling and jokes brought a smile to everyone in earshot. You will be missed. May your sweet memory bring happiness to those who loved you.

My friend, gone too soon. I will miss you so much. We discussed chess, music, politics ... and you had the sharpest, quickest, driest and funniest wit I have ever come across. You were never at a loss for a retort and told the funniest jokes. When I came to the chess club after a tough day, you were there to brighten my mood and make me smile. When I couldn't solve a problem with the tournament directing software, you solved it instantly. When we needed an extra player to "even out" the pairings you played. When we had enough players to even out the pairings, you stepped back and let others play. You led our chess club through thick and thin for many years. You never asked for anything and you gave everything. Until we meet again someday down the road, Peter, may you rest in peace.
