Obituary of Alan "Joe" Arthur, Jr.

Alan Joseph (Joe) Arthur, Jr.,70, of Ridgefield Park, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Villa Marie Claire in Saddle River after a short illness. Joe was born Oct. 10, 1948, and grew up in Charleston, WV, graduating from George Washington High School and Beckley Jr. College. He relocated to New York City where he worked in the Insurance Industry until starting a small shop for antiques in the Antique Mall, Cloister, NY. A self-taught expert in art, antiques and jewelry, he was known by dealers and shoppers alike to have unusual items of value. In later years he worked briefly at Neiman-Marcus. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Alan J. Arthur and Dorothy (Mitchell) Arthur.  He is survived by his sister, Joan Arthur Irvine (Art) of Vero Beach, FL; a nephew, Scott Irvine (Kimberly) of Brooklyn, NY;  Elizabeth Irvine Bray (James) of Pasadena, CA, and great niece and nephew, Madeline and Russell Bray along with cousins and friends. He will be greatly missed by his friend and care-giver, Barbara Johnson of Ridgefield Park, and his companion dog, Riley. Services will be private as his wishes. Donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
