Obituary of Margaret Ann Niven
Niven, Margaret (nee Flanagan) age 92, a longtime resident of Ridgefield Park passed away surrounded by family members on March 31, 2018. She was a Registered Nurse having completed her training at Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing, Class of 1949 and was employed as a Registered Nurse at Margaret Hague Hospital in Jersey City. She also obtained a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Health Education from Jersey City State College in 1949, this double accomplishment was rare for a woman at the time. She became a member of the Jersey City Medical Center Alumni Association, and retired from the nursing profession in 1950. She maintained her nursing license and often assisted neighbors and others in the community by administering various medical treatments. In 1949, she married her devoted husband, Archibald (deceased). Beloved and devoted mother to Margaret Ann Niven and her husband, Huntley Hardison, Mary Ellen Heagen, Frances Perrotta and her husband, Neil Perrotta, Kathleen Weber and her husband Richard Weber as well as Richard Niven and his wife Lisa and the late Patricia Niven. Loving grandmother to Nicole, Christopher, Brian, Noelle, Colleen, David, Erika, Rebecca, Charlotte, Rachel, Patrick, and Michael. Loving great-grandmother to Anthony, Kimberly, Krista, Keyaira, Christopher, Emma, Jonathan and Nicholas. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Helen Niven and her many nieces and nephews. Margaret was committed to an active volunteer life including International dinners for Ridgefield Park High School, holiday lunches for St. Joseph’s parish and Senior Citizen lunches, and holiday food baskets for needy families. She crocheted over 150 hats for premature babies at several Southern New Jersey various hospitals. She was an avid reader having spent endless hours reading her favorite authors including James Patterson, Mary Higgins Clark, John Grisham, Lisa Scottoline and many others. Visitation Wednesday April 4th, 5-9pm at Vorhees Ingerwersen Funeral Home, 59 Main St., Ridgefield Park. Procession from Vorhees Ingerwersen on Thursday, April 5th beginning at 9:15am and Mass will be offered at St. Joseph’s RC Church, Bogota at 10am. Internment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hackensack following. In lieu of flowers donation are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in her memory. This charity was near and dear to Margaret’s heart. Envelopes for contributions will be available at the funeral home.
