~~Harry F. Graves, Sr., 97, of Ridgefield Park, NJ passed away peacefully at his home on August 25, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He is predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Mary Graves; his adored wife, Helen Eileen; his son, Harry, Jr., his siblings, Stanley, George, Charles and May (Crepeau). He is survived by his sons John and William, daughter Barbara DeLuca and husband Chuck; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Graves, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Harry was born and raised in North Bergen until he proudly entered the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on the USS Bowie in the Pacific where he earned several medals. Upon returning home, he met a USO volunteer named Eileen Gray, who he married in 1947. They settled in Ridgefield Park where they lived the rest of their lives.

Harry was honored to be chosen as the Grand Marshal of the local July 4th parade in 2008. Harry proudly served in the Ridgefield Park Volunteer Fire Dept. where he held every rank including Chief of the Dept. (1978). Prior to his death, he was the oldest living retired member of the Fire Dept.
Harry lived the quintessential American life. He went to war, came home, got married, had a family, worked hard and served his community – all while living life to the highest moral standard.
His family and friends will always have the memories of holiday gatherings, barbeques at his pool, family trips and all the “can-do” lessons he taught us.
Harry, Dad, Pop-Pop – we are all going to miss you, but most of all, your constant companion and Boston Terrier, Trixie, will always be looking for you. Our Hero, Rest in Peace.
