Velez, Wilfred “Willie” age 72 of Ridgefield Park passed away on February 24, 2017. He was born November 16, 1944 to Pedro and Rosa (Casiano) Velez in San German, Puerto Rico. At a young age he moved with his family from Puerto Rico to Edgewater, NJ he graduated from Leonia High School where he starred on the varsity wrestling team. As a young man he served in the US Army, serving a tour in Vietnam. He has a strong commitment to his country and his fellow soldiers. After serving in the army he returned home to persue a career in law enforcement. He trained for and graduated from the Highway Patrol Bureau of the Division of Motor Vehicles which was later transferred to the NJ State Police. He served in the NJ State Police for 22 and ½ years where he retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class. On November 11, 1976 he married his beloved wife Georgeann with whom he had two children whom he adored with all his heart; Melissa and Christopher. He also had two wonderful grandchildren Shawn and Kyla and a beloved godson Andrew, along with many nieces, nephews and friends who truly made his world go round. To know Willie is to know a selfless, kind, generous man who always put others wishes and cares ahead of his own. In the end, many friends and family came to comfort him but it was he who comforted us. His family is grateful for the final gift that he gave them all by bringing his friends and family together to grow even closer while celebrating the life of this great man. Funeral from Vorhees Ingwersen Funeral Home 59 Main St. Ridgefield Park on Wednesday at 10:30am. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Francis RC Church, Ridgefield Park at 11am. Visitation Tuesday 4-8pm. Interment Hackensack Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: American Diabetes Assoc.(http://www.diabetes.org/donate/) in his memory. Vorheesingwersen.com
