
Obituary of Frederick Monaghan
Frederick Monaghan, age 69, a lifelong resident of Ridgefield Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 1, 2025.Born in Teaneck, NJ, he was the beloved son of the late Rosemary (nee Bopp) Monaghan and the late Gerald E. Monaghan. Fred earned his Bachelor’s Degree and dedicated his career as a Surrogate Court Clerk in Bergen County for many years before his retirement. A devoted parishioner of St. Francis R.C. Church and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Fred served as a Post Grand Knight. He was involved with the Loyola Jesuit Center, where he cherished visiting the Loyola House of Retreats, nestled in a tranquil woodland area of Morristown, surrounded by beautiful lawns and gardens. His compassion extended beyond his immediate community, as he contributed to the Funds of Unwed Mothers Association. Fred found great joy in spending sunny afternoons on the golf course and traveling to new destinations around the world. He also served on the Ridgefield Park Board of Education, shaping the future of countless students. Fred is survived by his endeared siblings Gerald Monaghan, Kathleen Dwyer, Rory Hanrahan, Michael Monaghan Anne Marie Reap, Joseph Monaghan, Mary Ellen Murphy, Connie Gordon, Elizabeth Avery, and predeceased by John Monaghan, and Peggy Monaghan. He was a cherished uncle to 30 nieces and nephews and 33 great nieces and nephews, who all held his loving Prescence close to their hearts. Fred’s kindness and generosity touched many lives. His legacy of warmth and community service will be forever remembered by his family and many friends.
A Visitation in Fred’s honor will be celebrated on Sunday, May 4th, beginning at 2 P.M. and concluding at 6 P.M. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 5th, 10 A.M. at St. Francis R.C. Church, Ridgefield Park. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Francis Food Pantry, continuing Fred’s legacy of giving.
