Obituary of Steven John Fernandez

Steven John Fernandez, aged 39, a beloved member of the Ridgefield Park community, passed away tragically on Sunday, February 2, 2025.  He is survived by his loving parents Susan (nee Kruger) and John Joseph Fernandez, endeared siblings Michael Fernandez and his wife Colleen, Laura Fernandez-Reilly and her husband David, and Stacy Fernandez and brother-in-law Timothy Rudersdorf, cherished goddaughter Scarlett Rae Reilly and soon to be nephew Declan James Reilly, and life partner Andres Posada.  He is also survived by many adoring aunts, uncles, cousins, and his brothers and sisters in blue. 

Prior to Steven becoming a dedicated Police Officer #164 in 2015 with the Ridgefield Park Police Department where he later rose to the rank of Detective he worked as a Registered Nurse at Hackensack Meridian University Medical Center.  Always ready to lend a hand Steven was a committed volunteer to helping others with the Ambulance Corps and the Village Fire Department.  He was proudly appointed the department’s LGBTQ+ Liaison, served as PBA President #164, member of the American Nursing Association, a brother of the Mosaic Lodge #194, and Eagle Scout Troop 3.  Steven was a beacon of love and compassion, always helping those in need.  He was deeply devoted to his family, valuing every moment with them and always showing his appreciation for their tenderness and support.  Steven loved his partner endlessly, and enjoyed traveling together, always looking forward to their next adventure.  Steven was a confidant to many, always offering a listening ear, whenever needed.  He was a true pillar of his community, and will be greatly missed by everyone, leaving behind lasting memories and a legacy of what an amazing person he was.

A visitation in Steven’s honor with be held on Monday, February 10th and Tuesday, February 11th, beginning at 4 P.M. and concluding at 8 P.M.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis R.C. Church, Ridgefield Park at 9:30 A.M.  All guests are asked to please meet directly at church.  Cremation will be private. In remembrance of Steven’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Ridgefield Park PBA who will be allocating for local organizations through them or directly to the St. Joseph’s NICU where they saved his precious goddaughter at https://givetostjosephs.org/donations/.  If you choose to donate to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center please specify In Memory of Steven Fernandez.
