I had the honor of knowing you just briefly through a small circle of mutual friends. You were the kind of person whose company everyone enjoyed and it is undeniable how your absence is not only felt in our small community, but also in all the lives you have touched near and far. It is with a heavy heart I thank you for being the person you were, a gentleman, a hero, and a true testament of extraordinary character.
You may have been taken too soon, but your impression you leave behind is infinite - proof that God takes the best. Rest easy, Steve. You will be sorely missed.
My deepest condolences to the family, friends, fellow officers and those fortunate to have Steve a part of their lives. May your fond memories bring you peace and comfort.

I don’t think there are enough nice things that can be said about Steve. A person’s actions reveal their true character. I had a front row seat to see the amazing person Steve was.
Steve was a scout in my brother’s troop. As a young man, Steve really stepped up after Harry’s cancer diagnosis. Steve’s caring, kindness, and compassion, especially during Harry’s last days, clearly showed what type of person he was. Steve’s constant support throughout his illness is something neither I, nor my family, will ever forget. He was by his side in the final days helping the family, doing things most shied away from. He was truly a special person and his absence will really be felt by all. My sincere condolences to his family, loved ones and members of the PD. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten. Everyone has a story about Steve’s caring nature.

I never got to meet Steve personally, but his story was shared in the Hackensack Chronicle and inspired me to continue on while serving as an LGBT firefighter for the city. Thank you for your service for our community, look out for us up there!
